Departing from Seattle, one of the most highly visited attractions is the Olympic Peninsula. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by the Hood Canal and on the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
The main attraction of this peninsula is the Olympic National State Park, where there are a myriad of things to see and do. Within the park are some wonderful RV parks, complete with full amenities. One of the more popular attractions of the park is what’s been titled, “Nature’s Three-in-One Package.” It consists of the Sol Duc Hot Springs, Falls and River.
The Sol Duc Resort is a beautiful retreat for summer RVing. This area is located about an hour west of Port Angeles, Washington. It is off US Hwy 101. (It is important to note that the Sol Duc River Road may be closed at times during the winter due to low elevation snowfall). It is a well-secluded land of enchantment where you will find ancient forests, mineral springs camping, kayaking, bird watching and even massages! There are 17 RV sites available with electrical and water hookups.
The area was named by the Quileute Tribe, meaning the “Land of Sparkling Water.” The springs are hot, and seem to be created by Mother Nature just for soaking and relaxing. Many believe that there are great healing powers in the water. Not only can you soak in the springs themselves, but the Sol Duc Resort provides guests with several hot soaking pools. One of the advantages to this is that there is poolside food service. In addition, there is a restaurant, and even an espresso hut.
If you are in the mood for taking in the best that nature has to offer, you can hike all the way from the RV park to the Sol Duc Falls. There is plenty of lush greenery along the way. There is a six-mile loop called Lover’s Lane Trail that follows the Sol Duc River. It will take you to a breathtaking set of three falls. The trail is suitable for all ages, as the elevation changes very little along the whole trail. Along your hike, you may wish to visit the salmon cascades, where you can stand on a wooden platform overlooking the Sol Duc River.
There is beauty all around the northwest part of our nation, and this is just a small offering of where to go in your Cruise America rental.
