Whether you like fishing, golf, horseback riding, river rafting or winter sports, there is always something to do here. If you’re not the outdoorsy type, an RV rental in Colorado Springs offers a wide array of shopping, dining, music, arts and cultural activities to keep you entertained any time of the day. And once you hit the road, popular destinations like Denver, Pueblo and Boulder are nearby.
If you get the urge to get cruising and explore more of Colorado, there are a few places that are close enough for some great day trips:
Pikes Peak Highway: Pikes Peak is referred to as "America's Mountain." The entrance to the highway leading to the peak is conveniently located just 15 minutes west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24. This scenic highway is perfect for your family to enjoy beautiful scenery in your RV rental from Cruise America. The gateway is 7,400 feet above sea level, and provides some of the most breathtaking views in the nation. You will wind your way through a wonderland of Alpine trees, crystal clear mountain reservoirs and gorgeous blue skies peering through the treetops as you make your way to the summit of the mountain, which is 14,115 high. Once you reach your destination, there is a host of things for the entire family to enjoy, such as the North Slope recreation area. You will find three fishing lakes, picnic areas and hiking trails, all set amongst scenery that will make you stop and appreciate the wonder of nature again. The North Slope recreation area is not open year ‘round – it opens on May 1st and closes on October 19th. The hours of operation vary, so be sure to check before planning your visit.
Denver: Just a short jaunt up I-25 North you will find the mile-high city of Denver, where fun and adventure await you. For instance, you can step out of your rental motorhome and pop into the unique SAME Café for some lunch, and pay what you think you can afford. Two former workers at the local food bank created this nonprofit eatery. It was their goal to provide good, healthy lunches to those who may not otherwise be able to afford to eat, or for those struggling to make ends meet. At the SAME Café, anyone can dine with dignity regardless of their economic status. Those that can afford to pay more, enjoy the chance to donate to such a worthy cause, and have a great meal at the same time! The food is delicious, and it is a heart-warming experience to go and feel of the spirit of generosity that abounds there; and what a great lesson in compassion for the whole family. SAME is open Mon – Sat 11 am to 2 pm. It’s closed on Sundays and federal holidays. It’s also closed on Thanksgiving weekend and the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
Wherever you go and whatever you do, make sure to enjoy the trip in a Colorado Springs RV rental from Cruise America!
