San Mateo RV rentals from Cruise America make it easy to enjoy the sights and excitement of the Golden State. From our convenient location (just south of San Francisco), exploring the Bay Area and beyond is a breeze.

San Mateo is actually a suburb of San Francisco, and an early one at that! Once upon a time it served as a stagecoach stop, then a stop for the railroad, after which it became the popular place for some of the wealthier of the San Franciscans to have a getaway home for the weekends.

Today, San Mateo is no longer a place set aside exclusively for the wealthy. As a matter of fact, it's rather diverse in its residency. Its location is a big draw to those looking to relocate to the area. It’s located about halfway between San Francisco and Palo Alto, making it a very convenient home base. Also, its mild climates throughout the year are a big draw to RVers, and travelers in general.

Before you hit the open road in your Cruise America rental RV, there are some interesting things to see and do in the San Mateo area. As an example, visit the Filoli Gardens, located on Canada Road. This old, yet gorgeous estate, along with its gardens, has become a national monument. These 16 acres of splendor are known as one of the best private formal botanical gardens in the nation. It's located in Woodside, off Highway 280, just 25 miles south of San Francisco. Needless to say, the absolute best time to visit is in the spring, when the blooms are converting to beautiful flowers.

The Foster City Lagoon is the perfect place to enjoy water sports of all kinds. You don't have to haul your equipment in your motorhome; you can just rent it right there. The art fairs and small town events are priceless. If you happen to be there for the fourth of July, you'll be amazed by the spectacular fireworks display. The lagoon itself is 212 acres of water, and the average depth is only 6 feet deep! For landlubbers it's perfect for hiking, biking, swimming, sunbathing and picnicking. Oh, and there are plenty of RV parks in the area where you can park your rental motorhome. To get there, it's only a 13-minute drive from San Mateo via CA-92 E. What better way to get there than an RV rental in California.

If you want to venture out a little further from San Mateo, think about taking a daytrip to Half Moon Bay. You'll love the small-town agricultural atmosphere, along with its roadside produce stands, as well as some of the best nurseries in the entire Bay Area. If surfing is your deal, there are some of the best waves on the entire coast, providing plenty of activity for the board jockeys. Half Moon Bay rests on the Pacific Coast between the green hills and the gorgeous coastlines. It's about 13 miles from San Mateo traveling west on CA-92.
