Sacramento is best explored from one of our Sacramento North RV rentals, available from our conveniently located rental center in nearby Citrus Heights. One of the best features about Sacramento and the surrounding areas is the mild weather, with an average of 230 days of sunshine each year.
The city is full of fun family activities. Visit the California State Railroad Museum. This renowned museum features historic locomotives and train cars, as well as films about the history of trains. During the summer, there is the Sacramento Southern Railroad steam train that runs a regular 6-mile route along the Sacramento River. You could visit the Crocker Art Museum, or visit Sutter's Fort State Historic Park. There are amusement parks, such as Fairytale Town and Funderland. Another attraction that shouldn't be missed is the Science & Space Center at the Discovery Museum of Sacramento. Stroll along the American River Parkway on the banks of the American River, and explore the 23-mile chain of parks.
If you feel the desire to get out on the road for some daytrips from Sacramento, here are a few ideas:
Two hours from Sacramento is one of the loveliest and most photographed areas of Lake Tahoe, Emerald Bay State Park. The bay was naturally carved into the earth over time by glaciers. It's only a mile wide and three miles long. It has the distinction of having been named a National Natural Landmark. You can enjoy several aspects of the park, which has two piers, a beach, two campgrounds and a visitor center. While there, visit the Vikingsholm, an exact replica of a Scandinavian castle from 800 AD. It's considered to be one of the best examples of Scandinavian architecture in the Western Hemisphere. There is a "boat-in" campground that is only accessible by boats, but don't try reaching it in your RV … there are plenty of great RV parks in the area. From Sacramento take US-50 east for approximately 100 miles and follow the signs to the park.
Jamestown is a former gold rush town (now a state park) located about a hundred miles southeast of Sacramento. It has become a California Historical Landmark, and it's a great place for a family daytrip in your rental RV. People come from all over to walk the historic streets, pan for gold, or shop in the various antique and gift shops. The main attraction, however, is called Railtown 1897. Railtown is made up of an original depot, headquarters and even a roundhouse for train maintenance. There is also a working blacksmith shop, as well as a belt-driven machine shop.
There are dozens of marvelous places to travel to in your RV rental in California from Cruise America, especially when you make Sacramento your starting point.
