Best Waterfalls in BC
Here is an extensive list of waterfalls in BC worth checking out on your trip.
Brandywine Falls
Brandywine Falls is one of the best waterfalls near Vancouver since it offers stunning views of Daisy Lake and its surrounding mountains. Because the waterfall is located in Brandywine Falls Provincial Park, there are several outdoor activities to pursue, including mountain biking, hiking, and recreational viewing.
To access the waterfall, take the Brandywine Gorge Loop –– a 1.4-mile trail that takes visitors down a creek and crosses several sections of other trails. Avoid the midday crowds by hiking early in the morning or around sunset.
Takakkaw Falls
What is so captivating about Takakkaw Falls? For starters, it’s the highest waterfall in the Canadian Rockies. Second, visitors who get up close are rewarded with the sensation of cool mist on their faces. Not to mention there are sightseeing tours from Lake Louise.
To access the waterfall, follow a trail from the parking area that is a mere 0.8 miles with minimal elevation gain. Alternatively, you can view the waterfall from the parking lot.
Shannon Falls
Towering at 1,105 feet, Shannon Falls is visible along the Sea To Sky Highway. Snap a few pictures as you coast along in your RV. What makes this waterfall unique is that it’s surrounded by lush old-growth rainforest. On top of that, there are several trails you can take to get an up-close view of the waterfall.
One of them is inside the parking area of Shannon Falls Provincial Park, which takes you along a gravel path. After going up a short hill and making a right on a paved path, keep walking towards the sounds of roaring waterfalls.
Cascade Falls
Cascade Falls is your go-to destination for a subtle outdoor activity with your family. The waterfall drops 950 feet and is surrounded by a lush forest. You can access the falls via a suspension bridge.
From the parking area, locate the yellow gate by a hill and follow the trail that begins on your right. After walking for approximately 15 minutes and climbing a set of wooden stairs, you’ll see the suspension bridge and the waterfall. Please remember that the surrounding area has cliffs and slippery rocks. Remain alert and stay on designated trails.
Bridal Veil Falls
If you’re hoping to wander through an expansive forest of western red cedar and trees with thick mosses, a trip to Bridal Veil Falls is in order. The waterfall tumbles 196 feet as you are treated with an up-close view of thin, white water. Bridal Veil Falls also happens to be the sixth-largest waterfall in Canada.
To get to the waterfall, there is an easy 0.6-mile loop trail starting from the parking area that can be completed in 30 minutes.
Spahats Creek Falls
What makes Spahats Falls unique is its geological formation. The water flows through layers of volcanic rock, and the surrounding canyon is the result of glacial meltwaters that occurred approximately 11,000 years ago. While the waterfall’s cumulative height stands at around 262 feet, visitors can only see the 200-foot drop because of the shape of the gorge.
Try the 1.7-mile out-and-back trail near Clearwater Valley if you’re hoping to reach the creek. Expect to complete the hike in approximately 45 minutes.
Della Falls
With a vertical drop of 1,445 feet, Della Falls in Strathcona Provincial Park is the biggest waterfall in BC. Four mountains surround the falls: Big Interior Mountain, Mount Rosseau, Mount Septimus, and Nine Peaks. Accessing Dells Falls is a tricky maneuver.
The trailhead to the waterfall is only accessible via water on the Great Central Lake. Your options include paddling, canoeing, kayaking, or using the Della Falls Water Taxi services. Keep in mind that these services operate from May 15th to September 15th and take approximately 55 minutes.
