Best Time To Visit Prince Edward Island National Park

Winter

It’s tough to recommend RV camping at Prince Edward Island National Park in winter.  Temperatures dip as low as 12 degrees Fahrenheit from January to early-March. That takes most fun things to do there (beachside activities) off the table.

Spring

Spring could make a nice alternative to summer if you’re willing to give up getting in the water. Crowds don’t start to gather heavily until mid-July. But June temperatures hover around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. That makes it a nice sweet spot to still enjoy a walk on the beach, or a hike over white sand dunes in comfort and peace.

Summer

Summer is the main event at Prince Edward Island National Park. It’s the high season, but for good reason. Temperatures hit a pleasant 75 degrees in July and August. It’s the best time to enjoy any activity available on the island.

Fall

We can’t recommend a fall visit either considering the cold temperatures making a beach day seem like short-lived fun. There’s not much fall foliage to speak of either. Making the trip in the first week or so of September will give you a summer vibe without the crowds. But, you’ll be a bit cooler with a 60 degree average temperature.

Things To Do in Prince Edward Island National Park

  • Explore the beaches. Pristine beaches and all the fun you can find there is the main draw to Prince Edward. So whatever you decide to do, setting the mood with a leisurely day on the beach is a perfect way to start your trip.
  • Active beach days. If you’re looking for an active beach day, head for the designated swimming areas! You’ll find opportunities to surf, swim, and splash to your heart’s content. You might even make a few new friends!
  • Lazy beach days. The further out from the swimming areas you roam, the more solitude you’ll find. So if slow is more your speed, Prince Edward offers a quiet retreat with a heavenly view just a stroll away.
  • Stargaze. With little light pollution, the night skies at Prince Edward Island National Park shine like a diamond sea. Don’t forget to take a few moments to look up, appreciate the unknown, and snap a few star photos while you’re at it!

Tips for Visiting Prince Edward Island National Park

  • Riptides occasionally hit the shores of Prince Edward National Park. Use caution anytime you’re in the ocean and keep a close watch on children.
  • Beaches are supervised by lifeguards from June through August. Plan a trip within these dates to enjoy the water safely.
  • “When in doubt, don’t go out!” If you’re not sure about how safe the water is, it’s best to stay well under your limits or simply don’t go out at all.
  • If you get caught in a rip current stay calm, swim parallel to the shore, and swim towards breaking waves (not against them).
