Gainesville

Home of the University of Florida—one of the largest universities in the nation—the Gainesville area is a great place to visit, and Gainesville RV rentals are a hot-ticket item. This is the reason that Cruise America has a rental center right in town!

Whether you're planning a tailgate party for the Gators game, or headed on a vacation in north Florida, a motorhome from Cruise America is the way to go. Offering plenty of space for your friends or family, luggage and gear, an RV can go anywhere you can imagine.

Gainesville, as well as the rest of Alachua County, is a dream destination for RVers and outdoor enthusiasts. Here you will find an abundance of water activities such as world-class fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, scuba diving and more. However, for the land lubbers there is beautiful hiking, biking, birding and anything else you can think of, save snow skiing! Gainesville is made up of rolling hills, sinkholes, lakes, and forests … a virtual playground, compliments of Mother Nature.

Gainesville is in the center of Alachua County, but there are several surrounding towns to visit in your Cruise America rental RV when you are ready to get off the beaten path.

For instance:

Alachua – This town replicates the typical small-town America. There are a host of quaint, family-owned businesses that line the streets. This is the sort of place where you can feel the sense of community. Every Saturday, farmers come to town to sell their goods. Neighbors look out for one another, and come to each other's aid when needed. The name of the town itself is taken from a native American word meaning "sinkhole." It is a Mecca of cave diving, as it is home to the largest fresh-water natural springs in the world. This town is also one of the largest Hare Krishna communities in the Western Hemisphere, which offers a look at Hinduism in the community. While in this mid-20th-century slice of American pie, you can visit Mill Creek Farm, which is actually a retirement home for over a hundred horses. With 245 acres of beautiful green pastures, this haven for elderly equines provides a comfortable environment for them as they approach the end of their earthly journey. Many of the horses are rescued from abusive homes, and are taken in by the farm to give them protection. None of the residents here will ever be ridden or worked again. It is a touching experience for you and your family, but keep in mind that it is only open to the public on Saturdays, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It’s a great experience for the whole family (although pets are not allowed) and admission is only 2 carrots! To get to Alachua from Gainesville, take Fl-20 W/US-441 N and travel approximately 19 miles.

Less then two hours on FL-40 E out of Gainesville, you will find Blue Springs State Park (a designated manatee rescue), located just west of Orange City. Here you will find a great deal of prime RV camping nearby, as well as scenery that will take your breath away, and plenty of manatees! You can swim or tube in the crystal clear blue waters of the spring run, canoe/kayak the Santa Fe River or just kick back and relax near the water's edge. The spring and spring run are closed to all water activity from mid-November to at least mid-March, and swimming or diving with the manatees is not permitted; this rule is strictly enforced.

Wherever your Florida adventure takes you, you will never run out of beautiful scenery and things to do in your Cruise America RV from our Gainesville rental center.
