Start with natural attractions … for the nature lovers!

Gillette Castle State Park:
Head your rental motorhome in the direction of East Haddam, where you’ll find the castle that was once the residence of William Gillette. If you don’t recognize the name, he was the original actor who played Sherlock Holmes. Aside from that historical venture, the park offers camping along the river, hiking trails and an area for picnicking.

Sleeping Giant State Park:
Next, head to Hamden, where the mountain range in this park actually resembles a sleeping giant! Aside from watching the giant slumber, there is hiking up to the observation towers, as well as fishing and camping. There is a great deal of ideal camping available in and around the park, so traveling in your rental RV becomes even easier.

Appalachian Trail:
The next stop on the journey in your Cruise America rental RV could be the world-renowned Appalachian Trail that runs through Kent and Cornwall. You can hike along one of the largest, and certainly most famous mountain ranges along the Housatonic River. There are trails for beginners, and advanced level hikers, alike. And, for the multi-day hikers, there are even campsites along the trail to get some shuteye before continuing on. The beauty of traveling in one of our motorhome rentals in Connecticut is that when you’re tired, you can simply walk into your rental RV and take a long, comfy nap.

As one of the oldest states in our nation, Connecticut is rich with American history. For the history buffs of the group, here are a few places they’d surely love to see:

The Mystic Seaport in the town of Mystic is an historic seaport that dates back to the time when the United States was still under the British rule. There are shops, museums and restaurants for the entire family to enjoy. Also, you can board and explore an historic ship.

The Weir Farm National Historic Site in Wilton was the summer home of the famous American impressionist painter, Julien Alden Weir. You can take guided tours of the house and studios, as well as meander along the gardens and hiking trails. You can even get creative and try your artistic skill out with the art supplies that are provided by the visitor’s center.

Roseland Cottage in Woodstock offers a colorful Gothic Revival-style mansion surrounded by lush gardens and greenery. This home was owned by Lucy and Henry Bowen during the Victorian era. Interestingly enough, it is also home to the oldest indoor bowling alley. The mansion was visited by various of our nation’s presidents.

Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford was the residence of Mark Twain, the quintessential American author. Enjoy a guided tour of the home in which he wrote some of his most influential books, and take a look at the exhibits on Mark Twain’s life and the works that made him so renowned.

It has been said that in Connecticut, there`s a museum for everyone, and while traveling in your rental RV from Cruise America, you can see every one of them! You may be into the fine arts, or aircraft, history or science, and there are museums to quench your thirst for knowledge. For instance:

Here, you can see fossils, skeletons, murals and replicas of these beasts from another era. In addition, there are exhibits about human history that date back to our earliest origins. You can visit the “Discovery Room” where you will enjoy the hands-on exhibits featuring live animals and several educational activities for the entire family.

Some of the other museums that are surely visit-worthy are the Mashantucket Pequot Museum in Mashantucket, featuring the life of the Native American and the affects that the U.S. settlers had on them. The Connecticut Science Center in Hartford offers hands-on exhibits for kids and grownups alike. The exhibits cover a range of science subjects like the earth’s natural history to the history of the human body.
