Chicago

Chicago is one of America’s favorite cities, and with good reason. It’s a great place to kickoff your family vacation — especially when you do it in one of our North Chicago RV Rentals.

It would be a shame to skip exploring the Windy City before hitting the open road. Who knows? With the gorgeous RV parks in the area, you may want to fill up your trip with nothing but the Chicago area, which makes for a lovely RV experience.

Chicago is one of America’s favorite destinations. While it’s the 3rd largest city in the nation, it puts forth a clean, energetic vibe felt by anyone who is lucky enough to visit. While exploring the city, you can leave the RV parked in one of many quality RV parks in the area, as the Chicago is a great walking town. Nevertheless, if your feet become fatigued, there’s an amazingly comprehensive transit system. There are trains overhead, underground and at ground level, not to mention the taxis, busses, Divvy Bikes (the city’s bike sharing program), car sharing, and even horse-drawn buggies—all taking locals and visitors alike to their chosen destinations.

Chicago is so large, that it’s divided up into districts, all of which have fabulous attributes to offer. Here is a list of these areas:

North Side – Not only is this where you’ll find our North Chicago RV rental center, you will also find upscale neighborhoods with endless entertainment in the way of storefront theaters, bars and clubs galore, and even the “Friendly Confines” of Wrigley Field! It is also one of the largest LGBT communities in the country. This district includes the communities of Lakeview, Boystown, Lincoln Park and Old Town.

Downtown – This this the center of Chicago, as well as the entire Midwest. This is where you’ll find the many skyscrapers, museums, beaches, parks, large theaters, shopping, corporate headquarters and the majority of the city’s most famous attractions. This district includes the communities of The Loop, Near North and Near South.

South Side – Here you will find the historic Black metropolis, Hyde Park, Chinatown, the real Chicago blues, great soul food restaurants, the White Sox and the University of Chicago. According to singing artist, Jim Croce (if you recall the song), this is where Bad, Bad Leroy Brown met his Waterloo! This district includes the communities of Hyde Park, Bronzeville, Bridgeport-Chinatown and Chatham-South Shore.

West Side – This area is of historical, cultural and ideological importance to the development of Chicago. It is, however, the fashionable rough side of town where you’ll find ethnic enclaves, hipsters and dive bars. This district includes the communities of Wicker Park, Logan Square, Greektown and Pilsen.

Far North Side – This is a very hip, laid back area with miles of beaches, along with some of the most bustling immigrant communities in the nation. This district includes the communities of Uptown, Lincoln Square and Rogers Park.

Far West Side – This area is quite a distance from the beaten path, so don’t be surprised if you get lost. You won’t mind, though, because here you will find incredible cuisine, a few of the top blues clubs in the city and large, scenic parks for you and your family to enjoy. This district includes the communities of Little Village, Garfield Park, Humboldt Park and Austin.

Southwest Side – This part of the city is where the huge Meatpacking District of the Union Stockyards once existed. It has a large number of Mexican and Polish neighborhoods, along with some amazing restaurants that reflect the same cultures. Also contained within this district is Chicago’s Midway Airport.

Far Northeast Side – Within this district is the huge O’Hare International Airport, the Polish Village, and a number of historic homes and theaters. This district includes the communities of Avondale, Irving Park, Portage Park and Jefferson Park.

Far Southeast Side – Home to the world-famous historic Pullman District (the first planned industrial community in the United States), this area is considered to be the “industrial underbelly” of Chicago. The Pullman National Monument is a tourist attraction that draws a large number of visitors. This district includes the communities of Historic Pullman, East Side, South Chicago and Hegewisch.

Far Southwest Side – This area is considered to be “Ireland in Chicago.” You’ll find authentic Irish pubs, an odd haunted castle, brogues and galleries. It’s all quite a distance from the city center, but intriguingly worth the distance. This district includes the communities of Beverly and Mount Greenwood.

There are countless things to see and do in Chicago and the surrounding areas, and in your Cruise America motorhome the boundaries are unlimited.

Located all throughout Illinois, some of our main hubs offer RV rentals in 60118, 60051, 60096, 60131, 60564 and more. See our full list of RV rentals in Illinois and book your RV rental in Chicago today.
